Sort of like sloppy joes, but with sausage and cole slaw?
A family recipe provided by Jennifer Kiel of Washington, DC, from her mother-in-law’s collection, started in Kent, Ohio.
Hot ‘N’ Hearty Totewiches
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. Italian sausage links, cut in 1/2 inch pieces
1 cup chopped celery
1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
1/4 cup prepared yellow mustard
8 oz. mozzarella cheese, cut in cubes or sliced
8 or 10 hamburger or crusty rolls
Cole slaw
In large skillet, cook together ground beef, sausage, and celery until meat loses its red color. Stir in tomato sauce and mustard; cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in cubes of cheese or arrange slices on top. Spoon mixture onto rolls and top each with a spoonful of cole slaw. 8 to 10 servings.
