In my experience, I prefer nut bread where nuts are used.

Nut Bread
1 rounded Tablespoon lard
1 cup sugar
2 cups milk
4 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup raisins
Nuts may be used.
Dates may be used.
Put in pans. Let rise for 1/2 hour. Bake in moderate oven.
