Bean Dunk

Comnio is Spanish for cumin, the second most important spice in chili powder.

From a box sold in San Antonio, Texas.

Bean Dunk

1 cup pinto beans
3 1/2 cups water
1 small clove garlic
1 small onion
2 slices bacon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. comino seed
1/2 pound American cheese
Tabasco sauce

Soak beans overnight or for several hours. Add other ingredients except cheese and Tabasco sauce and cook until beans are tender (about 4 hours). Drain and reserve liquid.

Mash beans until smooth. Combine grated cheese with beans; add a few drops of Tabasco and enough of the liquid to make proper consistency for a dunk. Serve hot. Makes about three cups. Amply serves 10 or 12.
