And cinnamon and nutmeg.
Yes, yes, I know I vanished for a month. Took a bit of a vacation while I worked on some paying projects. (This is a labor of love, y’know.)
We talked about the history of doughnuts a bit in the post for Yesterdish’s cinnamon baked baby doughnuts.
Here’s the back of the card:
From a box sold in Warminster, Pennsylvania.
Doughnuts With Sweet Milk
1 cup sugar
2-1/2 Tablespoons butter
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
3-1/2 to 4 cups flour
Cream butter and add half of sugar; add remaining sugar to eggs and combine mixtures.
Add 3-1/2 cups flour, mixed and sifted with baking powder, salt, and spices; then enough more flour to make dough stiff enough to roll.
Shape and fry at 370 degrees.
