Yule Cake

With sour cream and raisins.

From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.

Yule Cake

1 cup water
2 cups raisins
1 cup shredded candied citron peel
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 Tbsp. molasses
1/2 c. sour cream
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda]

Into a saucepan put 1 cup water, 2 cups raisins, 1 cup shredded candied citron peel and cook 10 minutes.

Cream 1/2 cup butter, 1/2 cup sugar, add 2 Tbsp. molasses, 1/2 c. sour cream, 2 well-beaten eggs, 2 c. flour, 1/2 tsp. salt.

1 tsp. each nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon.

1 tsp. baking soda, stir in fruit boiling hot.

Bake in moderate oven 1 hour.
