Spice Wafers

“Or age up to one week.”

Spice Wafers


  • 1 cup Crystal sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter — small pieces
  • 1/2 c. molasses and
  • 1/2 c. water

Heat 110 deg. F.

Stir constantly–remove and stir until butter melts.

Sift together:

  • 3 cups flour–sifted
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger, and
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves

Add gradually: dry ingredients to cooled sugar mixture–cover, chill overnight–or age up to one week.

Place: chilled dough–1/4 at a time on well-floured surface. Knead 10 strokes–coat dough with flour–roll out to 1/16th inch thickness.

Cut: into desired shapes–place on greased baking sheet.

Bake: 375 deg. for 5 to 8 minutes.

(10 to 12 dozen.)
