Polly’s Date Nut Balls

With coconut and dates.

Here’s a more buttery, less nutty November 13, 1973 edition of the Fitchburg (Massachusetts) Daily Sentinel:

Date-Nut Balls
Miss Thea Testa
20 Marshall Hill Rd.
Westminster, Mass. 01473

Cream together
1/2 c. butter or oleo
1 egg
1 c. sugar
Add–1 c. chopped dates
1/4 tsp. salt
Cook–stirring constantly for 10 min. over low heat
(it burns easily)
Cool–add 2 c. Rice Krispies
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix thoroughly.

Shape into balls about the size of a walnut. Roll in coconut.

As you make them into balls and put on the coconut, put them on a sheet of foil for 15-20 minutes and then store in a tightly covered can to keep fresh.

1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 [c.] (8 oz.) chopped dates

Cook until blended.

2 c. Rice Krispies
1 c. chopped nuts

Roll in coconut.
