From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.
Chocolate Fudge
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
2 squares chocolate
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. butter
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
Boil ingredients together to soft ball stage. Add vanilla.
Beat until it begins to stiffen. Pour into buttered pans and mark into squares.
