Fudge and Coconut Candy

There’s a lot of candy in this box.

By “soft wax,” she means “soft ball,” or between 235 and 240 degrees.

From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.

Fudge

3 c. sugar
1 c. water or milk
1 Tablespoon of butter
3 Tablespoons of cocoa
Vanilla to taste

Boil to soft wax stage and beat in 3 teaspoons of marshmallow cream. Beat till creamy. Pour into pan.

Coconut Candy

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Karo corn syrup
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 teaspoon butter
2/3 c. water
pinch salt

Cook till boiling. Add a little cream of tartar, just a little taken up on the point of a knife; cook to soft wax stage and take off and stir in coconut or you can add nuts if desired instead of coconut.
