Raisin Gingerbread

With walnuts.

From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.

Raisin Gingerbread

2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1-1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup raisins
3/4 cup molasses
1/2 cup boiling water
4 Tbsp. melted fat

Mix and sift flour, soda, ginger and salt. Add nuts and raisins. Mix molasses and hot water and add to dry ingredients.

Add melted fat. Beat vigorously and pour into greased pans. Bake forty minutes in a moderate oven.
