Raisin Spice Cake

With cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.

From the box of L.S. from Joplin, Missouri.


1-1/2 c. raisins — Cook quite a while and cool. Should be 1/2 c. liquid or little more.

Add 1 tsp. soda
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter [or?] lard
1 egg
1-1/2 c. flour


Cook slowly:

  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • pinch of cream of tartar.

Vanilla added after taken from stove.

Yesterdish suggestion: I’d guess half a teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla.
