Is it hot chocolate time yet?
From a box sold in Canby, Oregon.
Marshmallows
2 envelopes gelatin
Soak in 10 Tablespoons cold water.
Boil 2 cups sugar in 10 Tablespoons hot water, until it spins a thread. Pour into softened gelatin, cool slightly, flavor and beat stiff.
Pour into square pan or box lid that has been sprinkled with powdered sugar. Refrigerate.
When set, cut and roll into powdered sugar. May be colored, rolled in pulverized nuts, or coconut.
Yesterdish suggestions: In this context, “flavor” means to add 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract. And “until it spins a thread” actually ought to be suggesting you cook the sugar to the soft ball stage, 240 degrees when measured with a candy thermometer. (What can I say? Agree to disagree, recipe card.)
