Apple Squares

Two full recipe cards? Really? I feel like with more time this could’ve fit onto one.

Just in case you prefer the cards in more manageable sizes…

From a box sold in Columbiaville, Michigan.

Apple Squares

Bake at 350 deg. for 30 min. Makes 16 squares.

1 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1/4 t. salt
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter or margarine
1/2 c. firmly pakced light brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped apple
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Sift flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon onto waxed paper.

Melt butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Beat in sugars, egg and vanilla with a wooden spoon until smooth. Stir in flour mixture, apple and walnuts until thoroughly combined. Spread into a greased 8x8x2″ pan.

Sprinkle with 1 T. of the cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Bake in a moderate oven (350 deg.) for 30 minutes, or until top springs back when lightly pressed with fingertip.

Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into squares.

Cinnamon Sugar: combine 1/2 c. granulated sugar with 1 1/2 t. cinnamon.
