A traditional Teutonic favorite for serving with sausages.

Sweet and Sour Red Cabbage
4 slices bacon, diced
2 Tbsp. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. water
1 onion, chopped
1 med. red cabbage, shredded
Brown bacon pieces in skillet. Remove bacon and set aside.
Put into pot 1 Tbsp. bacon drippings; add flour, sugar, salt and pepper. Stir well.
Pour vinegar and water into pot. Stir.
Add cabbage and onion to pot. Cover. Cook on low 3 to 4 hours, high 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
Sprinkle bacon pieces on before serving.
