Unless you want a tray full of hard candy with nuts in it, you have to pull the taffy.
From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.
Taffy
2 cups light brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
4 Tbsp. vinegar or juice of one lemon
English walnuts, cut in halves
Heat butter, sugar, and vinegar over moderate fire. Stir until sugar dissolves. Boil without stirring. Pour carefully over and around nuts which have been placed in oiled pans. Cut in squares.
