It doesn’t get much more basic than this.

1 c. Rice
3 c. Water
1 heaping tsp. salt
Heat water to boiling. Add rice and salt and stir well. Cook (heavy or double boiler).
Simmer 11 to 12 min. [Later note: cook 14 min.] Then turn fire off (but do not lift lid). Do not stir after lid is once in place.
