Chocolate Cake and Icing

From the box of L.S. of Joplin, Missouri.

Chocolate Cake

Heat to boiling:

  • 1 c. water
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1/2 c. salad oil

Pour over:

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 4 T. cocoa

Add:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk + 1 t. soda
  • 1 t. vanilla

Flour [but I think she means pour?] in floured, greased pan.
Bake 400 deg. 20 minutes.

Icing

Bring to a boil and cook 2 min:

  • 1/2 stick oleo + 1/2 stick butter (or all butter or all oleo)
  • 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 4 T. cocoa
  • 1 t. vanilla
  • 1 c. nuts (if desired)

Add 3-1/2 c. powdered sugar.

Pour over cake while both are hot.
