Cook till threads from spoon or hardens in cold water, then pour over 2 stiffly beaten egg whites (beating continuously). 1 teaspoon flavoring extract.
This is my requested ‘birthday’ dinner for the past 52 years!
Lemon barbecue sauce from July 1951 Good Housekeeping Barbecue Cook Book issue:
1/2 cup lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best)
1/4 cup salad or olive oil (we reduce or leave out)
1 peeled clove of garlic crushed
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp finely ground black pepper
1/2 tsp dried thyme
2 tbsp grated onion (sweet is best) drain excess juice
Mash garlic with salt.
Combine all ingredients.
Chill (optional)
Best on Chicken, pork and hotdogs
can be frozen
the salad oil probably helps crisp chicken, but caused fires
