Oatmeal Jam Bars

With blackberry jam and brown sugar.

Here’s a similar version using apricot jam from the September 3, 1967 edition of the Long Beach, California Independent Press-Telegram:

Jam-Oatmeal Bars

1-1/2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup light brown sugar
1-1/2 cups quick oatmeal
3/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup apricot jam

Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Mix with sugar and oatmeal. Cut in butter until crumbly. Press 2/3 of the mixture into an 11×7 baking pan. Spread with jam and top with remaining crumbs. Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and cut into bars.
