Caramel or Butterscotch Cookies

With brown sugar.

From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.

Caramel or Butterscotch Cookies

4 cups dark brown sugar
1 cup melted Crisco
7 cups pastry flour
4 beaten eggs
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder

Cream Crisco with sugar, add eggs, mix thoroughly. Add dry ingredients sifted twice. Shape into roll about 3 inches in diameter. Slice and bake in hot oven.

Makes about 124 cookies.
