Oriental Salad

Crunchy ramen and cabbage.

The general consensus on “Oriental Flavor” is that it’s essentially pure umami–basically, MSG. Probably true, but it feels unnatural. You might as well just add sugar and salt to something and call it “Western Flavor.”

If this wasn’t baffling enough already, consider the added information that Top Ramen’s Oriental Flavor is vegan, while Maruchan Oriental Flavor contains beef products.

If there are any ramen gurus out there, please explain further.
